I’m Kassi. I first encountered A Course in Miracles at age 29 while scrimping by as a writer, activist, and touring speaker based in New York City. At the time, I worried about being fat, not having enough money, and dying. I secretly resented people I felt “owed me” or “didn’t see me.” Was “waiting to be discovered.” Lost sleep over the state of the world, and it was only 2014.

Doing A Course in Miracles changed everything. I swear it even changed my face. Ten years in, the world feels more uncertain than ever, but I am not. Because of the Course, I know why I am here. I know the healthy peace I’m capable of creating, whether in a war within myself or on another side of the world. We were all born with this power.

“Kassi Underwood brings more than just feminine grace to the public square; she also brings grit, fierceness, an uncommon intelligence and spiritual understanding. She is a paver of the way for a new generation.”

Kassi Underwood

Kassi Underwood has been a student and teacher of A Course in Miracles for over a decade. She is the founder of The Practice and was the first-ever meditation advisor at Harvard Innovation Labs. She is also the author of the memoir May Cause Love (HarperOne) and host of the podcast Big Energy with Kassi Underwood.

Seventeen years ago, when Kassi was newly sober and suffering from anxiety, a one-minute morning practice became her gateway drug to peace of mind and even trippier experiences of higher consciousness. This gateway led her to encounter A Course in Miracles and study it at Harvard Divinity School, where she served as the inaugural meditation advisor at Harvard Innovation Labs, guiding the community in fear-releasing meditations and dance moves to Prince. It was there that Kassi developed a sharper set of tools to get her shit together: The Practice is her signature method, based on A Course in Miracles, to transform anxiety and relationship friction into a life of high energy, self-expression, and love.

Since then, Kassi has traveled around the world to share her modern, irreverent twist on applying practical spirituality to every area of life, from sex to money to activism. She’s presented her live events at Soho House, Alice & Olivia, Wanderlust, and colleges. Iconic spiritual leader and U.S. presidential candidate Marianne Williamson calls her “a paver of the way for a new generation.”

Kassi’s memoir, May Cause Love (HarperOne), a fiercely honest and surprisingly funny testament to spiritual healing after abortion, offers a unique voice for reproductive justice that has been amplified by NPR, MSNBC, Women’s Health, The New York Times, in a cover story for New York Magazine, and more. She moonlights as a standup comedian and has performed at Gotham Comedy Club and once in the basement of the Bowery Electric alongside Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer.

Kassi believes the point of spirituality is to be free. She is the proud mother of a six-year-old son named Wallace.
